Lighting in modern homes plays an increasingly important role – it is not just a source of light, but also an interior detail that complements the overall home design and sometimes adds even more uniqueness to the space. With the rise of innovations, Led lightings and Led stripes are still unbeaten. LED lightings have a smaller environmental impact compared to older halogen, incandescent, or other types of lights or lamps. LED lightings are used for spot/zone lighting, such as over a dining table, a desk lamp, bedside lamps for reading, or mirrors in the bathroom. LED stripes mainly function as perimeter/zone lighting, for example, around the perimeter of the living room, hidden in the ceiling, or under kitchen cabinets to illuminate the work area.

So, how to choose the right lighting for your home?

Lighting fixtures can be categorized based on the room, purpose, but most often, they are chosen based on their type. It is also important to consider whether the fixtures will be used outdoors or indoors. This time, we will discuss indoor lighting fixtures.

The most common types of indoor lighting fixtures are:

o Ceiling Lights

o Wall Lights

o Hanging Lights

o Recessed Lights

o Standing Lights (floor lamps, desk lamps)

The best solution is achieved when multiple light sources are planned within a single space. The more light sources there are, the cozier the space will feel, and the fewer shadows will fall on a person's face.

Equally important is the color temperature of the light.

The color temperature of light is divided into three ranges: 2700K - 3200K for warm white light, 4000K - 4500K for daylight, and 5000K - 6400K for cool white light.

It has been proven that brain cells are most sensitive to white (daylight) and cool white lighting. Studies show that this type of lighting reduces drowsiness, increases body temperature, enhances alertness, boosts confidence, and even improves memory. Therefore, daylight lighting is recommended for use in workrooms, bathrooms, and offices. Daylight or cool white lighting is also used in public spaces such as operating rooms, hospitals, or other areas designed for intense eye work. Warm white lamps and light fixtures are typically chosen for individual home designs, and they are often applied uniformly throughout the entire house. To adjust brightness, different wattages or varying lighting levels or zones are selected.

A consistent light color throughout the entire home space creates a unique sense of cohesion and completeness.

Lighting is matched to the activities in a specific space

When planning lighting in the home, it’s important to focus on the activities that will be performed in each room.

In the bedroom, it's worth planning multiple lighting levels: the main (ceiling) light and bedside lighting. If reading in bed before sleep, a task light with a longer arm should be placed next to the bed. It should be bright enough to avoid straining your eyes while reading, with a focused beam so it doesn't disturb the person next to you. For the main lighting, choose a powerful ceiling light with diffused light or multiple recessed spotlights.

In the kitchen, the main focus should be on lighting the work areas, so it's essential to plan lighting under hanging cabinets. Recessed LED strips are ideal for this purpose. Most often, medium-power LED strips with a separate switch or motion sensor are chosen. Don’t forget the ceiling lights for the general lighting of the space. Also, if there is an island in the kitchen, plan for pendant lights above it, depending on the size of the island.

In the dining room, a pendant light is typically chosen. We recommend a not too bright, diffused light (not direct) fixture. The key factor here is the distance between the dining table and the bottom of the pendant light. This distance should be sufficient to properly illuminate the table without causing glare. Therefore, when choosing light fixtures for rooms with particularly high ceilings, attention should be paid to the length of the fixture's cable.

In the office, a key element is the desk lamp. It should be bright enough to prevent eye strain and adjustable in terms of the light's angle. Don't forget the general lighting, for which recessed or ceiling spotlights are recommended.

One of the most important aspects of bathroom lighting is the lighting above the mirrors. If the main lighting is designed but there is no light above the mirror, shadows will fall on the face when looking into the mirror. Correcting this mistake will immediately improve the effect—there will be no unnecessary shadows, and the reflection will be clear and bright. Many manufacturers now offer mirrors or cabinets with built-in lighting, providing double the benefit. We also offer bathroom mirrors with lighting, available in various shapes, sizes, and power options. We also want to highlight the importance of the IP protection class: the higher it is, the more resistant the lighting is to dust and moisture. Therefore, the closer the light is to a water source, the higher its IP should be.

In children's rooms, brightness is crucial. To ensure proper lighting, multiple ceiling fixtures should be chosen, and the required wattage should be calculated based on the room's size. Accent lighting can come from children's wall-mounted or table lamps, which can be easily replaced with newer ones as the child grows.

In the living room, several lighting levels should also dominate. The main ceiling light should be a powerful, diffused light fixture combined with multiple recessed ceiling lights or a number of recessed fixtures with a larger beam angle. Since both the living room and dining areas are often visited by guests, a floor lamp can become the centerpiece of the room's decor. These come in various styles, sizes, and shapes.

In both living room and bedroom or other spaces, one of the lighting levels can be hidden LED stripes. LED stripes are mounted on specially designed plasterboard shelves, creating indirect, decorative lighting for curtains or walls. LED strips can be installed along the curtains, around the room’s perimeter or on just one wall. Medium-power LED stripes are typically selected for this purpose.

In all cases, the required lighting power should be calculated based on the room's area, the direction of the windows, the number of windows, and the ceiling height. All of the mentioned Led lights or Led stripes can also feature a light flux regulation function, allowing you to adjust the brightness according to your needs. You can brighten the rooms on a productive day, while for celebrations, having guests, or wanting a cozier atmosphere you can dim the lights with remote.

Properly chosen lighting can transform the atmosphere of your home in ways you wouldn't even recognize.
